Asturias’ wild coastline stretches over 400 kilometers along the Cantabrian Sea. With over 200 beaches, steep cliffs, caves, and picturesque villages, you can spend multiple days exploring its coastal zone. Together with a local guide, you explore Asturias’ wild coast and fishermen’s villages during this private tour.
Cudillero is one of Spain’s most beautiful coastal villages. Its harbor and colored houses built criss-cross along the cliff make it an indispensable place to visit. However, there’s is much more to see in and around Cudillero, and that is what a lot of visitors do not know!
This private tour is guided by a local, English-speaking guide from this seaside region. She introduces you to this wonderful fishermen’s village and its surroundings. You can choose from three thematic excursions, which are all customizable.
Excursion option 1: Picturesque Fishing Ports
You visit the fishing port of Cudillero, its former fish market, and its historical buildings. Then, you drive along the coast visiting various viewpoints (miradores). They offer fantastic views over the Cantabrian sea and Asturias’ wild coastline. You then visit the fishing port of San Esteban. Your guide knows everything about its history and tells many local anecdotes. The tour ends again in Cudillero. Don’t forget to follow the advice of your guide and have some fresh seafood for lunch or dinner!
Excursion option 2: Cudillero’s rural hinterland
You start in Cudillero, where your guide shows you the fishing port, its former fish market, and its historical buildings. Then, you leave the coast to explore a less well-known, but culturally very important part, of this region. You drive to the rural hinterland of Cudillero. Here, you learn more about the century-old practices of the farmers in this area (vaqueiras). They still have their own strong rural identity. This includes traditional costumes and musical instruments, especially used during weddings and (religious) parties. You learn everything about these customs during this tour, while you enjoy the panoramic view over the mountains. The tour ends again in Cudillero. Don’t forget to follow the advice of your guide and enjoy some fresh seafood for your lunch or dinner!
Excursion option 3: Beaches and viewpoints of the Cantabrian sea
You first visit Cudillero, where your local guide shows you the fishing port, its former fish market, and its historical buildings. Then, you drive along the Asturian coastline to visit the surrounding beaches and viewpoints (miradores) over the Cantabrian sea. There’s a large variety of beaches in this area. Some are very small and surrounded by high cliffs. Others are more extended and you can access caves from the beach. Still, others are completely flooded during high tides. Finally, some of them are rocky and therefore perfect to search for crabs and other animals.
There’s ample opportunity to enjoy the views over the sea from one of the viewpoints. You can take a small walk on top of the cliffs. Or simply sit down on one of the benches and enjoy the sea breeze and sounds of the waves. The tour ends again in Cudillero. Don’t forget to follow the advice of your guide about the tastiest restaurants with fresh seafood for your lunch or dinner!
